"how did I know then, what was

Since then, whenever the song is

the Ambros sax embellished sound,
always sets the pace for a
romantic mood," says Troy
Cory.
"In
fact, it was in Innsbruck,
Austria, 1970, when I was part of
the Ambros Show, that I first
discovered how important it was
to grab the audience with a big
precise sound."

History About Ambros
Seelos
Funky
songs for private
eyes Unbelievable
but true:
the
first release on 9pm Records' new
sublabel "Brigade Mondaine" is a
compilation of one of the German
godfathers of Jazz-Lounge and
Funky Listening : Ambros Seelos
and his Orchestra. This genius of
music has been around since the
1960s and plays definitely in the
same league like Peter Thomas,
Germany's probably most wellknown
Easy Listening soundtrack
composer and bandleader (i.e.
"Vampyros Lesbos").
----This
album is the first
"best-of"-release of the Ambros
Seelos Orchestra and combines for
the first time his most brillant
recordings from the 1970s on one
album.
----Toughest
afro-funk like on Mabusso or
Guma, pulsing disco-sound in Run
and Midnight Sound (by the way
the title song of a lost movie),
and Gimme More is a trip into the
earliest days of electro-sound.
All in all the titles on this
album are a journey through the
1970s black music and all the
songs are both funky and jazzy. A
cd like the soundtrack of "Shaft
4" if it would have been
produced.
----Ambros
Seelos was born on the 30th of
January, 1935 at Toeging,
Bavaria/Germany. At an early age
he learned to play various
instruments and - due to his
musical home - he got in touch
with a great variety of
styles.----During
and after his music studies at
the conservatory he performed as
a guest musician in various bands
before he founded his own vocal
and instrumental band in the
style of groups like the George
Shearing Quartet or the Four
Freshmen in the 1950s.
----In
1960 he established the Ambros
Seelos Orchestra which exists to
the present day. Their musicians
partly being still the basic line
up of the orchestra hail from
such different countries as the
U.S., Belgium or South
Africa.
----
The Yugoslavian
Silvester Levay who wrote
a lot of the tunes on Ambros'
albums started later on a career
as a composer. Sylvester's songs
"lady Bump" or "Fly Robin Fly"
became world-hits of the Silver
Convention. Also his musicals
"Elisabeth" and "Mozart" are
mega-sellers in Europe. Troy Cory
co-authored "Hurricane" with
Sylvester, which was featured in
the Troy Cory/Ambros "Today's
Puzzle" recordings in 1971.
----On
his numerous tours around the
world the Ambros Seelos Orchestra
has been the backing band of
different artists such as Max
Greger, Troy Cory, Chubby Checker
and Hildegard Knef. Even with
Jazz-stars like Count Basie, Ella
Fitzgerald and Louis Armstrong he
shared the same stage and thus
added an impressing list of
musical giants to his
biography.
----Between
1970 and 1980 the Ambros Seelos
Orchestra did not only play
frequently in Hong Kong,
Singapore, Las Vegas, Manila and
Bangkok (where they can justly be
referred to as superstars) but
also did their probably most
exciting recordings. The
highlights of the Troy Cory Shows
in China, are the songs and
background pre-recorded videos of
the Ambros Seelos Orchestra.
These "Live" shows are all
compiled on any Troy Cory /
Ambros Seelos S90tv
collection.
