ABOUT
"Buster Ladd" • Star Maker • Model Killer
A Hollywood Beat Report / tvinews.net

-----So what in the world was VRA TelePlay Pictures thinking when they decided on updating -- or, as they call it, "Reinventing" Buster. Troy says, "the updating" -- was absolutely necessary, after discovering the lost reels of film in 2003, left to them by the late John C. Harris.
----- When I was hired in 1968 as an actor/singer in the first of the three films, John was the executive producer and head of United American Pictures International. I was in my early twenties, living in the pre-feminist, pre-AID era,
----- It was the time when the baby-boomers were in their mid-teens forming good and bad habits, suggested by Hefner, the Beatles, the Black Muslims, and Charley Manson, during the days of wine coolers and poppy seeds.
----- It was also the time when quasi-government financial opportunities to fight Communism, were plentiful. The Vietnam war chest, "Marshall Plan", Bernie Cornfield's IOS and Pierre Sallinger USIF money in Europe and Asia, was there for he asking. Where John got his money and permission to film the low-budget trilogy of film product, no one will ever know.
----- Filmed in 1968 through 1970, "Buster" is part of the work-in-process film product that includes two other films, all directed by John Carr and co-produced by John C. Harris, "Star Maker" and "Model Killer". Each scene and character became enlarged with each location chosen; Munich, Berlin, Ireland, Venice, Italy, Pasadena and Hollywood.
----- "Star Maker", first of the three, was filmed in Ireland, Berlin and Hollywood, starred - Wendell Corey, Barbara Valentin; Rolf Eden, Jean London, and Troy Cory/
----- Many of those close to John, viewed him as a producers' producer, uncompromising in everything he did. Josie points out that John believed that people with talent are fairly common. But to make it, John said, a talent has to be obsessed with his or her work, and "John" was obsessed."

As for the Buster Ladd character --
he could have done something more academic, but he was overly influenced by his studies at various Hollywood actors workshops: "Don't ask for the meaning, ask for the use".

As for Buster's twin brother, also played by Troy,
the Dr. Peter Ladd character, guides his subjects into the Freudian world of social/sexual behavior. He shows the actors in "Buster", as well as the audience, how to find the path to the house where they picked up some of their sexual flaws; and how they can live their lives with their adopted character and put their principles into action.
----- This is not a theoretical tome. The V.A.T.T.S. five human innate sense theory works. After all these years of writing about Telepathy and the electromagnet wave, says Troy, "I have found it has helped me create soulfind.com, in the world of Internet soul finding, the grave yard for missing links". This film is a picture of the real world of Vision, Audio, Taste, and Touch and Smells.
----- All of Troy Cory-Stubblefield and Josie Cory's 5 major books on the inventors of Wireless, were written with passion. Their latest book, "Disappointments Are Great, Follow the Money" -- is about class conflicts, patent/copyright frauds, political ideals, non-payment, and the great upheavals in thought and social engineering, caused by the major wars of the 20th century.
----- The title story in "Buster", however, is a peculiar told tale about a group of 12 people who are joined together by mental Telepathy and their boss, Dr. Peter Ladd. The reason for the big monetary prize, offers a trade-out for the actors' schematic fantasies in their private lives.
----- Viewers looking for autobiographical clues as to what keeps the Ladd brothers ticking, as well as each of the contestant's personality fantasies in the movie, will only have to wait for 90 exiting minutes to find out. Who won the grand prize of one million dollars is a shocker.

"Star Maker" was the excuse to film a Playboy motion picture
in the Communist sector of Berlin, in 1968. It was a study, in which it would attempt to define the difference in the "sex-life" in the free zone of Berlin vs. a Communist Berlin. Rolf Eden's legendary playboy club, the "Big Eden" is featured. Web Sights to visit to learn more about Rolf Eden. (Photos of Rolf on Left column).
ABC News / Net Movies / Strike Back / Europe News / Eden Playboy

With just so many words,
John Carr limits a revolution in human sexual biology that mirrors an equal transformation in the political and social understanding of the relations between men and women.
----- "Buster Ladd" proves with this update, there is a sexual and scientific revolution still in progress. Indeed, the film shows so near the cutting edge of research that at times the film's insights have been overtaken by scientific V.A.T.S. brain fingerprint findings, that have been made public in the years since this story was filmed.
----- In this sense, "Buster" has been side swiped by the speeding juggernaut of science -- and occupational hazard for those film-makers who seek to explicate the esoteric of experimental research to the general public with over reacting and unnecessary violence to get their story across. See NBC News, DateLine Jan 23, 2004 / The Kid's of Cambodia.
----- Any flaw in the timeliness of the scientific finding in this film is in no way, geared to diminish the deeper pleasure of the film. In seeking to understand the biological question mark, known as the male of the species, "Buster" plums more enduing truths of human sexuality by offering the big prize at the end of the movie . . . MONEY!.

For the real question of "Buster",
Troy suggests, is why men? And why are there so many men that are willing to buy into adult programing? As for women, why are they so susceptible to fads, trends and styles?
----- With the invention of the Wireless Telephone and the Still, Movie and Television Camera -- came brain fingerprinting and the mechanics of V.A.T.S -- and the art of Telepathy and its link to the five senses . . .!
----- The audience you'll see and hear throughout this feature film, include the contestants of "Flip Flop" -- applauding themselves at various Star Maker studio previews . . . Held in 1968 and 1969!

The Star Maker in this motion picture is . . .
The Wireless Radio Telephone, The Television Camera - - and those people who have mastered the Art of Telepathy!
----- If the statement made by the actor is true, and the audience can be convinced -- the actor will walk home with $ 1 million dollars, at the end of this Movie, says the place cards strategically inserted throughout the movie.
----- . . . The famous Twins' TV show was produced by a government BASIC* telepathy solutions group called, V.A.T.S. Flipping the mind with images, creates trends and passions.

B E R L I N, Germany, Dec. 2, 2003 -- Rolf Eden, a Berlin property tycoon, star of the 1968, "Star Maker", former nightclub owner, and all-purpose celebrity, says he is offering $125,000 to any woman, from anywhere in the world "My real desire is to die on a lady, while making love," Eden said. "A lawyer has my will, and in my will I have $125,000 for this lady." Wendell Corey, died in November, 1968, a few week after his scenes in Berlin for "Star Maker" were completed. Barbara Valentin; Rolf Eden and Troy Cory -- were also featured in the film.

"Buster" / Directed by John Carr

VRA4040 - "Buster Ladd" --
a 80 Minute WebPlay Feature Film. Director: John Carr; Animation Director: Troy Cory. The Actors: Troy Cory; Toni Covington; Hildegard Wendt; Troy Cory Jr.; Ken R. Burton; Bud Waite; Connie White; John Carr; Grant Warrick; Paul Kosty; Joan Yap; Edward Kelley; Rosemary Alexandra; Charles Andrese; Gale Ryman; Bernadette Navas; Bob Briscoe; Scott Stubblefield; Keith Jr.; Cindy Noble; Terre Schneider; Jerry Zorthian; Larry Taylor.
----- If ever a film seemed rooted in a specific time period, it's "Buster". This pre-feminist, pre-AIDS, water-bed generation film about the 60s, is not only tied to a specific president, it is linked to several well-known actors, actresses and Telepathy.
----- Filmed in 1968 and 1969, it's part of the work-in-process film product that includes two other films all directed by John Carr and co-produced by John C. Harris, "Star Maker" and "Model Killer". Each scene and character became enlarged with each location chosen; Munich, Berlin, Venice, Italy, Pasadena and Hollywood.
----- "Star Maker" was the excuse to film a motion picture in the Communist sector of Berlin, in 1968. It was a study, in which it would attempt to define the difference in the "sex-life" in the free zone of Berlin vs. a Communist Berlin. Rolf Eden's legendary playboy club "the Big Eden" is featured.
----- Buster Ladd was an un-apologetic swinger/actor who loved and left, all of the "women", including a famous German movie star, (Barbara Valentin) -- in all of the zones without regret! Well, until he's last seen back in America, with Hilda, (Hildegard Wendt) -- the girl friend of (Barbara Valentin), suspiciously spying on the hilltops above Pasadena. The Jerry Zorthian; ranch overlooks the rocket/space research center, JPL and Cal-Tech. The theme songs Relax and Rat, Tat, Tat are iconized in the V.A.T.S. -- NBS100 brain-fingerprinting Art Room of this inventive on location production.
----- On its surface, the film traces the life of two twin brothers' quest, Dr. Peter Ladd and Buster Ladd, to understand the fate of their liberal movie-star mom, who mysteriously died in a bedroom fire. It is about accepting the truth.
----- The film follows the Twins, (both played by Troy Cory), as they explore the use of Radio and Television, and the art of Telepathy. It's Dr. Peter Ladd's ability to use his artful hypnotic powers to transmit mental thoughts, by utilizing the five senses, visual, audio, touch and pheromones to sell products, goods and service on a TV program they end up co-hosting. His act steals the show, "Flip Flop".
----- The hypnosis themed film, uses the names and visual drawings of the inventors of the electromagnetic wave frequency as a guide to explain "brain fingerprinting" to the audience and how it is stored in the brain.

Lost Reels of film found in 2003
----- "The Star Maker" - Wendell Corey; Barbara Valentin; Rolf Eden; Dr. Dunlap; Jean London; Paul Norman; Troy Cory; Bill Adrian; / "Model Killer" - Keith Jr. Cory; Priscilla Cory; Troy Cory Jr.; Troy Cory; Bill Adrian; Josie Cory; Linda Ronstadt and the Stone Ponies. "KTLA / Warner Bros. Troy Cory Show Segments" / Priscilla Cory; Tina Kincaid; Lori Engel; Nancie White; Brooke Kenvin; Mike Lipman;

"Star Maker" / Directed by John Carr
----- Star Maker is about a once-famous movie director Paul Lamont, played by (Wendell Corey). Paul had fallen on hard times and Hollywood has forgotten him. His pictures are no longer in vogue.
----- Borrowing air fare from his ex-wife, played by (Lisa Pera), Wendell flies to Berlin, where a former colleague and studio mogul, Irving Rykoff, played by actor Paul Norman, is producing three films. A hotel maid, (Barbara Valentin) -- recognizes Wendell's celebrity name and makes a play for him. He falls in love with Barbara, and is entranced by the maid-full duties throughout a May-September Berlin Hotel romance.
----- Barbara is completely amoral and breaks Wendell's heart, running away with a German playboy club owner, the famous Rolf Eden, she meets at the Cork (Ireland) Film Festival. (Rolf Eden, plays himself). While, drowning his woes in schnapps at the hotel bar, Wendell (Paul) -- encounters Buster Ladd, a popular American singer/recording artist, (Troy Cory), and a California beauty contest winner, (Jean London).
----- Unwittingly, the trio, Wendell, Troy and Jean, are working for a quasi-movie production group, as a Hollywood front for a team of U.S. counterspy agents.
----- Jean, who had just been seduced and abandoned by the studio mogul during the Cork Film Festival, falls for Wendell's line; and talks Buster (Troy), into making a play for Barbara. Of course, this is to break-up the romance between Rolf and Barbara to help Wendell get revenge.
----- For their efforts in helping Wendell break the Rolf/Barbara romance, Wendell falls for Jean in a sweet romantic way, and Buster, with official U.S. O.K.'s, follows the Rolf Eden life-style around Berlin in Rolf's black limo. The rest is history, Buster, Rolf Eden and Barbara, are filmed singing and swinging at the "Eden playboy" club, attended by both the spy worlds of the Communist and U.S./German Allies.
----- Seeking solace together, Wendell and Jean retreat to Hollywood, where she waitresses at a Boulevard cafe, always encouraging Wendell, who drinks free coffee, dreaming of a comeback, hopefully perusing the pages of the trade papers. Buster (Troy) returns to Hollywood to make the sequels to "Star Maker", "Buster" and "Model Killer", starring Buster Ladd, Paul Norman, and Wendell Corey.

*Note: The Hollywood scenes of Wendell and Jean were filmed before the location shots in Berlin and Ireland. Mr. Wendell Corey died in November 1968, a couple of weeks after returning from Berlin. Actor, Paul Norman, was also the featured star of "Model Killers" and cameo player in "Buster".

Thoughts: The Executive Producer

During his lifetime John C. Harris,
used the daily newspaper as true interpretations
about murder, rape, spies and the Holocaust.

----- He also used the news as a brazen way to create and sell a film treatment about something he was familiar with, "the birds and the bees" and government officials. The confirmed bachelor theorized that sexual indifference's were "caused by a major war" and was directly related to class conflicts, political ideology and religion. This DVD attempts to visually explain a few of John's newspaper viewpoints, and what question in his mind, would have inspired him to do a movie about the following. What was the purpose of headlining the opening paragraphs made by England's molecular researcher, geneticist, Steve Jones, in several major newspapers?
----- "Ejaculate, if you are so minded and equipped, into a glass of chilled Perrier, there you will see a formless object. If you look hard enough and concentrate -- you will see the baby" -- so read the article about the eighteenth-century biologist's sex theory.
----- The newspaper puffed along about the male's gift to the female, "was of so much labor and energy", that the only job for the female recipient, after conception, was to incubate the child. So believable, in the 19th and 20th centuries, the sole roll of the wife was a mere seedbed, a step below the husband in society, in the household, and, most of all, in herself.
----- "Foolish of course, and quite wrong", John would have said, "for biology proves that man, and not woman, has always been the "second sex" -- ask my Miss Universe and Hawaiian Tropic Beauty Pageant buddy's, Donald Trump or Ron Rice, they'll confirm it."

Cantor, Bert. The Bernie Cornfield Story.
New York: Lyle Stuart, Inc., 1970.
----- Bernie Cornfield attained millionaire status as the head of Investors Overseas Service, headquartered in Geneva, Switzerland. Born in Turkey, raised in Brooklyn, Cornfield was a one-time socialist and social worker who in 14 years built an overseas empire controlling over two billion dollars in other people's assets. Yet, by 1970, Bernie and his IOS empire were crumbling, but Bernie "didn't believe he was through." First edition, hardbound with illustrations and dust jacket.
