Television With No Borders International Satellite & Communications Exchange Conference and Expo First Annual ISCe International Satellite and Communications Exchange Conference and Expo Long Beach California Convention Center Exhibit Hall Hours Tuesday, August 27 -- 7:00pm - 8:30pm Wednesday, August 28 -- 10:00am - 7:00pm Thursday, August 29 -- 10:00am - 5:00pm By Larry Leverett ----- The first annual ISCe Conference was held at the Long Beach Convention Center. Opening Ceremony and keynote address was presented by Dean Olmstead. There were over 350 attendees at this first time event. The highlight of the conference was the "General Richard E. Webber Luncheon", which featured keynote speaker Brigadier General Richard E. Webber. General Webbers' topic was "The Increasing Role of Satellites in the Electronic Battlefield". Opening and closing remarks were by Andrea Seastrand, Executive V.P., of the California Space Authority. General Webber also spoke of the star highway which is a futuristic satellite program of the universe. It was a sell-out luncheon. Webber gave much insight into the planning of our future here on earth, along with the current economic crisis. ----- The Awards Ceremony, which was the climax of the event, was held at the Long Beach Aquarium. The ISCe Education Award went to The National Aeronautics & Space Administration, the Industry Leadership Award went to DIRECTV, Inc., the Innovation Award went to ND SatCom, Lifetime Achievement Award was awarded to Conny Kullman, and the Technology Award went to XM Satellite Radio. Scholarships were presented by: Cynthia Dinkins, executive director of T. Howard Foundation; Robert Davis, President and CEO of the California Space Authority; and Bill Collopy, vice president and general manager of Boeing Launch & Satellite Systems. The scholarships were awarded to Maida Lopex and Zeus Xioco, both of Cal. State University, Los Angeles. -----Special thanks for the fine treatment of TVI/look Radio.
