• 115- The 86th Hollywood Christmas Parade 
•••••• 2017 marks the historic 86th Anniversary of the Hollywood Christmas Parade, an American tradition. The Hollywood Christmas Parade is an annual parade that takes place on the Sunday after Thanksgiving in the Hollywood community in Los Angeles, California, United States. Grand Marshal of the 86th Parade is Mehmet C. Oz, of the "Dr. Oz Show."
••••••  The 86th Annual Hollywood Christmas Parade Featuring Marine Toys For Tots Foundation, is produced by Associated Television International and presented in association with The City of Los Angeles. It will be hosted by Erik Estrada, Laura McKenzie, Dean Cain and Montel williams, along with Dean Cain and Montel Williams, and special Co-Hosts Elizabeth Stanton and Garrett Clayton.
During the Red Carpet Arrivals Event at this year's live parade on Sunday, November 26th Councilmember Mitch O'Farrell will present this year's Parade Grand Marshal Dr. Oz with a Certificate of Recognition from The City of Los Angeles for his career accomplishments.

 The annual live parade is held in the streets of Hollywood attracting more than one million people.
•••• The live parade features 5,000 participants, and will be taped for multiple nationwide network television broadcasts to be aired during the holiday season.  The parade will travel along a 3.2 mile U-shaped route starting at Orange Street and Hollywood Boulevard traveling east on Hollywood Boulevard to Vine Street, turning south on Vine Street to Sunset Boulevard, and then turning west on Sunset Boulevard traveling back to Orange Street.  Grandstand seats are now completely SOLD OUT. FREE Curbside Seating will be available along the parade route, starting at the intersection of Hollywood Boulevard and Highland Avenue, continuing along the rest of the parade route on Vine Street and Sunset Boulevard.
•••• The 86th Annual Hollywood Christmas Parade will culminate with the much-awaited arrival of Santa Claus and His Reindeer, ushering in the holiday season, accompanied by two United States Marine Corps escorts.  Santa's Elves have adorned his ceremonial robe with snowflakes and thousands of Swarovski Crystals, in addition to weaving in 500 red crystals in the Poinsettia on Santa's hat.
•••• The 86th Annual Hollywood Christmas Parade will premiere as a two-hour primetime special on The CW Network on Friday, December 15, 2017 at 8:00 p.m. ET/PT (7:00 p.m. CT) and will be seen on Hallmark after The CW broadcast.  The parade will also air to more than one million American servicemen and women worldwide on the American Forces Network during the holiday season.  The parade will also feature a Special Tribute for Toys For Tots by Ludacris and Special Tributes to "The Young and the Restless" and "Days of Our Lives."

• Dr. Oz rides as Grand Marshal in the 86th
Hollywood Christmas Parade
•••• Dr. Oz, surgeon and author, has won Nine Daytime Emmy® Awards for "The Dr. Oz Show" and is a professor of Surgery at Columbia University. He directs the Complementary Medicine Program at New York Presbyterian Hospital and performs 50 heart operations annually. His research interests include heart replacement surgery, minimally invasive surgery, alternative medicine and health care policy. He has authored over 400 original publications, book chapters, and medical books and has received numerous patents. He also has a magazine with Hearst "The Good Life", which was voted the hottest new publication in 2014.
•••• Dr. Oz was born in Cleveland, Ohio, raised in Delaware and received his undergraduate degree from Harvard University (1982) and obtained a joint MD and MBA (1986) from the University of Pennsylvania School of Medicine and Wharton Business School. He was awarded the Captain's Athletic Award for leadership in college and elected Class President twice followed by President of the Student Body during medical school. He lives in Northern New Jersey with his wife Lisa of 32 years and their four children, Daphne, Arabella, Zoe and Oliver and two grandchildren Philomena and John.
•••• Previously, Dr. Oz was a featured health expert on "The Oprah Winfrey Show"for six seasons, spanning over 60 episodes. He also served as chief medical consultant to Discovery Communications, where his "Transplant!" series won both a Freddie and a Silver Telly award. He has appeared on all the network morning and evening news broadcasts and guest hosted numerous shows. He also served as medical director of Denzel Washington's "John Q" and performed in the hip-hop video "Everybody" as part of the Let's Move Campaign.

The AFI Fest presented annually by the American Film Institute opens with 'Mudbound' and continues with a bounty of world cinema. It has become a favorite destination for moviegoiers seeking the newest and best that world cinema has to offer. Movie showings are held at the TCL Chinese Theatre Imax and CTL Chinese Thearters 6801 Holllywood Blvd., LA as well as at the Egyptian Theatre 6712 Hollywood Blvd., LA.
•••• The richness of this event's international scope is an earnest priority for the festival's director, Jacqueline Lyanga, and her team of programmer. It's a way the AFI Fest keeps faith with its legacy -- a throwback to the old glory days of the institute's long-defunct Los Angeles International Film Exposition, a.k.a. Filmex, which from 1971 to 1987 was a notable local bastion of globe-trotting cinephilia.
•••• Until just a few days ago, the festival was expected to close with the Nov. 16 world premiere of Ridley Scott's hotly anticipated "All the Money in the World," but the film was yanked from the program by its distributor, Sony Pictures, in the wake of sexual assault allegations against Kevin Spacey, one of its stars. (As of now, the film is still set to open theatrically Dec. 22.) The last-minute change of plans cost AFI Fest one of its highest-profile attractions, but also spared it some potentially awkward headlines at a time when charges of rape and sexual harassment have engulfed the industry.
••••The show will feature more than 90 screening over the next eight days including a dazzling, 12-film Robert Altman retrospective. On Thursday night the festival got off to a vigorously applauded start with Dee Rees' "Mudbound," a sprawling, powerfully acted epic of racial discord set in the WWII-era American South. The film reaches Netflix and select theaters Nov. 17.
•••• One of the sacred dictates of the international film-festival circuit is that you can never have too much Isabelle Huppert, who received a tribute at AFI Fest last year en route to her Oscar nomination for "Elle." That theory is put to the test here by the inclusion of no fewer than three Huppert vehicles: "Happy End," another master class in art-house severity from Austria's Michael Haneke; "Claire's Camera," a Cannes-set curio from South Korea's prolific Hong Sang-soo (who also has another film in the festival, the absorbing "The Day After"); and "Mrs. Hyde," a new work from the French auteur Serge Bozon.

• 101- Gary Sinise named 2018 Rose Parade grand marshal
Actor Gary Sinise has been named the 2018 Rose Parade grand marshal for the famed New Year's Day event. The parade's theme is "Making a Difference."
•••• Sinise is known for his work with veterans' causes. The announcement was made by Tournament of Roses President Lance Tibbet. It will be the 129th Rose Parade and precedes the Rose Bowl football game.

• 114-Frank Barron, journalist and cartoon writer has died
Frank Barron, a cartoon writer for Hanna-Barbera, and former editor of the Hollywood Reporter, has died. He was 98.
•••• Barron grew up wanting to be professional baseball player but detoured to Hollywood's spell early, writing radio show material for Red Skelton and Edgar Bergen, creating story lines for Hanna-Barbera cartoons and keeping track of the A-listers he came to know -- Walt Disney, Bob Hope, John Wayne, Steven Spielberg.
•••• Born in Elizabeth, N.J., on Feb. 5, 1919, Barron started selling stories to Boys' Life magazine when he was young and became a part-time sports writer for the Newark Evening News when he was in high school.
•••• He was drafted into the Army on the eve of Pearl Harbor in 1941 and was stationed in England. When he got out in 1945, he returned to New Jersey and worked as the sports editor for the Asbury Park Press. newspaper before accepting a government job in Japan. He took charge of running several Air Force Base newspapers in the Tokyo area for a little over a year before heading to California.
•••• There, he wrote for the "Woody Woodpecker" and "Popeye" cartoon shows before moving over to Hanna-Barbera, where he helped develop story lines for the studio, which at the time was the powerhouse of animated programming for television.
•••• He later became the head writer for "The Pinky Lee Show," a variety program for children that helped pound out the mold for future after-school programming.
•••• Barron was twice the editor of the Hollywood Reporter, in the mid-1960s, and again in the late '70s. At the time, the trade publication was owned and published by Tichi Wilkerson Kassel.
•••• When he was 61, Frank married publicist Margie Platt in 1980 at the home of actress Shirley Jones and comic Marty Ingels.
•••• He was a member of the Television Critics Association and wrote many stories with his wife Margie whom he transformed into an enthusiastic journalist, who writes a weekly entertainment column for The Tolucan Times.

Troy Cory's Vine Street Video Center was Tom Petty's first choice to produce his first music videos in May of 1978. Other top rock artists such as Jackson Brown, Rod Stewart, Joni Mitchell, Warren Zevon, and Randy Meisner (the Eagles) also produced their first music videos at Troy Cory's Vine Street Stage in the late 70s.
•••••••He was born Oct. 20, 1950, in Gainesville, Fla. A poor student, he caught the rock 'n' roll bug after he was introduced by his uncle to Elvis Presley, who was shooting the picture "Follow That Dream" on location in nearby Ocala. Like many other boyish rock aspirants, he began working on music in earnest after witnessing the Beatles on "The Ed Sullivan Show" in Febrary 1964.
•••••In 2002, Petty was inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame.

• 3 Billion Yahoo accounts hacked
Yahoo says every account -- tallied up to 3 billion -- was affected by 2013 breach
•••• The Internet service company Yahoo reported two major data breaches of user account data during the second half of 2016. The first announced breach, reported in September 2016, had occurred sometime in late 2014, and affected over 500 million Yahoo accounts. A separate data breach, occurring earlier around August 2013, was reported in December 2016 when when Yahoo disclosed that hackers stole information that could be connected to more than 1 billion accounts. As part of its December announcement, Yahoo says it required all users who had not changed their passwords since 2013 to do so, and disabled unencrypted security questions and answers.

•••• Hefner, whose Playboy men's magazine popularized the term "centerfold," glamorized a bachelor lifestyle and helped spur the sexual revolution of the 1960s.
•••• Hefner founded Playboy in 1953 with $600 of his own money and built the magazine into a multimillion-dollar entertainment empire that at its 1970s peak included a string of Playboy Clubs whose cocktail waitresses wore bunny ears and cottontails.

• Troy Cory was among the first international entertainers and the first American entertainer to perform in the People's Republic of China, beginning in 1988. The PRC's administrative climate in comparison is much less restrictive now and China's open door policy enables many entertainers to introduce themselves to the populace Chinese audiences.

VENICE, Italy -- Known as an awards-season launching pad, a bevy of Hollywood talent -- including Oscar winners George Clooney, Matt Damon, Julianne Moore, Jennifer Lawrence and Octavia Spencer -- headed to the Venice Film Festival, which opened its 74th edition August 30.

Los Angeles hosted the World Police & Fire Games (WPFG) from Monday, August 7 to Wednesday, August 16, 2017, with Opening Ceremonies and parade of athletes at the LA Memorial Coliseum. More than 8,000 athletes, all active or retired Police Officers or Firefighters, from over 70 countries competed in the biennial 11-day Olympics-style competition, in over 65 different sports and disciplines, and draw up to 50,000 spectators.

The world's first responders are here in Los Angeles, for the 2017 World Police and Fire Games, which were officially ushered in on Monday with opening ceremonies at the Los Angeles Memorial Coliseum.
•••• From Southern California, participants include members of the Los Angeles Airport Police, the Los Angeles Police Department and the Los Angeles Fire Department.
•••• "What makes us different is the ages of the athletes," said Chuck Foote, director of the California Police Athletic Federation, the umbrella organization for the World Police and Fire Games Federation, which conducts the games.
•••• "These athletes range in age from brand-new employees to those with 40 years of experience."•••• •The World Police and Fire Games have been held every two years since 1985.
•••• "The World Police and Fire Games not
only help to promote physical fitness through intense competition, it also builds camaraderie and lifelong friendships among first responders," said Los Angeles Police Chief Charlie Beck, a past games competitor who is expected to also compete in this year's games.

: - In January 1902, Stubblefield agreed to participate in the commercial exploitation of his device by Fennell's Philadelphia Group that purportedly included Westinghouse. Incorporation papers for the Wireless Telephone Company of America were filed in Prescott, Arizona, on May 22, 1902. Stubblefield was a director, but held no office. The Washington and Philadelphia demonstrations maintained the momentum needed to sell stock in the new company. A four page prospectus, extolling the investment opportunity in Wireless Telephone Company of America compared the Stubblefield device with Marconi's wireless telegraphy system by stating that both systems utilized "... for transmission what are termed Hertzian electrical wave currents ..." The technical details were not disclosed since the prospectus was designed to sell stock, and perhaps deliberately avoided specific evidence on the points of comparison or contrast. The use of steel rods thrust into the ground, the large circular coils and the copper antenna wires attached to the masts on the steamer Bartholdi and on rooftops indicate that Stubblefield's 1892, 1893 and 1902 systems were based upon Stubblefield's earth grounded induction-antenna principle, in which we now call, AM radio. Stubblefield insisted that a more "powerful" apparatus would "transmit" unlimited distances. The U.S. Navies ELF project in Clam Flats, Wisconsin is based on Stubblefield's basic induction-antenna device.

Demonstration. In 1885, Nathan B. Stubblefield, "The Inventor of Wireless Telephony" held his First Demonstration, [which was the World's First Private Demonstration of wireless (voice) transmission on land]. Stubblefield, from Murray, Kentucky: Patented his invention in 1898 and also in 1908. {19/Gx}
• Wireless Telephony: 1885: Stubblefield demonstration to his friend, Duncan Holt, the transmission of voice without wires. Holt stated, "One Sunday that year [1885] Stubblefield invited Holt and his wife out to his home, where the west boundary of Murray State College now is. That afternoon he said to Holt, "Duncan, I've done it. I've been able to talk without wires -- all of 200 yards -- and it'll work everywhere!" Stubblefield had a little "experimental station" he called it, 200 yards away from the house, and he said he could talk from there and it could be heard at the house, or vise&endash;versa -- and without wires! At that time, Holt said, "the Scientific American had never mentioned the possi bility in suggestion or otherwise that speech or intelligent communication could be transmitted with out wires. • Wireless Telephony: 1892: First World's Public Radio Demonstration - In 1892, the World's First Public Radio Demonstration -- [World's First Public Demonstration of wireless (voice) transmission on land] was held in Murray, Kentucky.
••• In the winter of 1892, Nathan B. Stubblefield made a tremendous ad vance in his "wireless telephone" demonstrations, which would make wireless practi cal over distances far greater than those from his experimental home to the garden, dis tances which would first encompass the earth and then reach far out into the universe and to uni verses beyond. It was Stubblefield's great invention of the "wireless telephone" that helped him discover the basic principals and laws of Amplitude Modulation, (AM Radio).
••• To advance his low&endash;frequency induction system to a space system, he built an aerial -- an antenna which he connected to one side of the carbon mouth piece of a telephone: (to send a spark wave; Hertz had merely used a horizontal rod ending in a plate.) The aerial was copper wire wrapped around a cylinder, or in some cases made into a loop, that was attached to the top of a pole (later he used longer aerials strung along the top of his family home). He con nected the other side of the carbon coil located inside of the mouthpiece to his electrolyte water batteries and crystal, stacked and positioned inside his secret "black box." Ground wires from the "black box," then lead to the metal stakes driven into the earth. The re ceiver also got an aerial and ground. {19/Gx}
• WIRELESS TELEPHONY: 1892: Nathan B. Stubblefield - In January, 1892, Nathan B. Stubblefield demonstrated this "WIRELESS TELEPHONY" system in Murray, Kentucky before several hundred on lookers. A total of $758.00 was borrowed from friends and relative to perform this demonstration. During the same year, Stubblefield, again privately, demonstrated to Rainey T. Wells the ability of his apparatus to send and receive the human voice by wireless. After he had set up his props, the inventor talked into one box in rather low tones, and his words "Can you hear me?" Came out the other box "quite distinctly and clearly" as attested to by witnesses.
••• Dr. W. H. Mason, a Murray sur geon who claimed to be a per sonal friend and family physician for Nathan B. Stubblefield, declared that in the same year he wit nessed a private demonstration of the wireless tele phone. Dr. Mason recalled that on one occa sion, Nathan B. Stubblefield handed him a device "housed in what appeared to be a keg with a handle on it." The doctor then followed instructions to walk down the lane carrying the keg. He testified that from it he could hear distinctly "Nathan's voice and a French harp (harmonica)" which Nathan was sending. {19/Gx}
• Wireless Telephony: 1895: Dit Dahs "dots & dashes"- Guglielmo Marconi - In the spring of 1895, what Nathan B. Stubblefield did with wireless voice transmission in 1885, Guglielmo Marconi did with dots and dashes. He discovered that he could send signals over distances far greater than those from his villa to the garden -- dis tances which would travel more than a mile It was Marconi's great basic in vention of signal induction -- if, indeed, it was his. Like Stubblefield, he built an aerial -- an antenna which he connected to one side of the spark gap. (Hertz had merely used a horizontal rod ending in a plate.) The aerial was a metal cylinder atop a pole. He con nected the other side of the spark gap to a ground -- at first, a copper plate ly ing in the ground. The re ceiver also got an aerial and ground. {19/Gx}
• Wireless Telephony: 1998: electrolyte water battery "Stubblefield, Nathan B" - 1898
The patent on the Stubblefield electrolyte water battery, number 600,457, was the device that provided the energy to produce the continual subcarrier hum during Stubblefield's voice transmission when it was connected to his "black box" that contained the electrolytic crystals that acted as detectors and modulators. The portable receiver contained the necessary detector to receive the voice broadcast. Stubblefield advertised that by slightly modifying the telephone coil, one could transmit through the ground for many miles -- the battery acting as a relay. {19/Gx}
• Wireless Telephony: 1898: ground cell (Stubblefield, Nathan B.) - 1898: Stubblefield's Electrolyte Water Battery. The patent on the Stubblefield bat tery, number 600,457, declares in the specification forming part of the letters of patent that the electrical battery has for its object: to provide a novel and practical battery for generating electrical currents of suf ficient forms for practical uses, and also pro viding means for generating not only a constant pri mary current but also an induced momentary sec ondary current.
••• This electrical battery is the "ground cell" or "earth cell" frequently referred to by Stubblefield in many of his writings and interviews. Stubblefield so named the de vice because when he first began his experimentation with it, he would place the device that he had constructed in the moist earth of his farm. Then, when electrical cur rents began to flow from the device, he assumed that the engine he had constructed was tapping the "natural elec tricity" of the earth. Note, for example, how he describes the action of his electrical battery: This cell de rived sufficient electrical energy from the ground in the vicinity of the spot where it was buried to run a small motor continuously for two months and six days without any attention whatever. Indeed, the electrical cur rent was powerful enough to run a clock and several small pieces of machinery and to ring a large gong. By adding a modified carbon microphone to the batteries, it creation wireless voice transmission. {19/Gx}
